Welcome to KYSAR
The men and women who make up the Kentucky Search and Rescue team are tied together by one common goal - helping people. We often help people who are lost or injured. Every once in a while we get the opportunity to save a life. That's what keeps us going.

We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week , 365 days a year with a fully qualified team of trained personnel to deal with any search or rescue within our scope. We will go out on a search in the middle of a blizzard on a winter night because we are trained - and because we are needed.
Kentucky Search and Rescue Team (KYSAR) is a non-profit, all volunteer team providing search and rescue, other emergency response and outdoor safety education to the citizens of Kentucky. The team also responds to requests for assistance from other search and rescue (SAR) teams in Kentucky.

KYSAR operates under the authority of the Kentucky Emergency Management, whose emergency operations center alerts the team through an call-out system and maintains communications with the team. Calls range from searches for lost or missing persons in residential areas to rural and mountainous areas. KYSAR may be the primary agency conducting the SAR operation or it may be assisting one of the fire, ems or police departments within the county, state, Kentucky State Parks or the US Forest Service.
KYSAR was formed in 2004. The team is dependent on grants and donations for almost all of its income. Being a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, all donations to KYSAR are tax-deductible as charitable contributions.
It is the policy of KYSAR not to charge for search and rescue.
